Antinociceptive and Anxiolytic and Sedative Effects of Methanol Extract of Anisomeles indica: An Experimental Assessment in Mice and Computer Aided Models

Abstract: Anisomeles indica (L.) kuntze is widely used in folk medicine against various disorders including allergy, sores, inflammation, and fever. This research investigated the antinociceptive, anxiolytic and sedative effects of A. indica methanol extract. The antinociceptive activity was assessed with the acetic acid-induced writhing test and formalin-induced flicking test while sedative effects with open field and hole cross tests and anxiolytic effects with elevated plus maze (EPM) and thiopental-induced sleeping … Show more

“…The open field test (OFT) used to assess the locomotor and exploratory behavioral activity of mice/animals [33] and also useful in the evaluation of antidepressant like-behaviors [34]. Locomotion is considered as an index of alertness, whereas a decreased locomotion affects guide as central nervous system (CNS) depressant activity [35].…”

“…structure activity relationship (SAR). The analyzed data were presented as Probable activity (Pa) and Probable inactivity (Pi) with the values in between 1.000 to 0.000 [28]. Compounds which exhibited higher Pa value than Pi (Pa > Pi) was considered as biological active and Pa>0.2 was regarded to have pharmacological potential.…”

“…The EPM test was used to explore the anxiolytic activity of the extract of A. trilobata in Swiss albino mice. The EPM apparatus consisted of two open arms (5 × 10 cm 2 ) and two closed arms (5 × 10 × l5 cm 3 ) with a mid-point (5 × 5 cm 2 ) [19,20]. Swiss albino mice of either sex were used in this study and the treatment was as described in the experimental design section.…”
