Antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects of Lantana camara L. extract in mice

Abstract: he Lantana camara L. belongs to the family Verbenaceae, which contains several active compounds in leaves and roots and which are reported to have medicinal and insecticidal properties. Studies of plants within the same family show the existence of anti-inflammatory activity in paw edema induced by carrageenan, serotonin and histamine and analgesic activity in the acetic acid writhing and tail-flick tests. The present study investigated whether the L. camara extract (ACE) also exerts these effects. The ACE tox… Show more

“…However, it is also possible that some other compounds interact synergistically or antagonistically. The anti-inflammatory activity of L. camara extracts has previously been demonstrated in several studies [12,[74][75][76]. However, IC 50 values were lower than 17.75 µg/mL in the present study (IC 50 of L. camara essential oil from Peru was 81.5 µg/mL [7]), indicating that L. camara is a plant with anti-inflammatory properties in various forms, supporting the wide use of this plant in traditional medicine for its anti-rheumatism properties [5].…”

“…Ethnopharmacological studies revealed that L. camara has been proven to have activities against that diarrhoea causing microorganisms including antibacterial [16], antifungal [17] and anthelmintic [18] activities. In addition, it also possess antimycobacterial [19], antioxidant [20], antinociceptive & anti-inflammatory [21], antimalarial [22], antiulcerogenic [23], and anti-leishmaniasis [24] activities. In vivo studies, indicate the leaves of L.camara and, its constituents (Lanthadne A) have antimotility [13] and antidiarrheal activity in mice model of diarrhoea [14].…”
