Antimutagenic activities of two suspected anticarcinogenic bifunctional organoiron seleno-terephthalate derivatives

Abstract: Two newly bifunctional organoiron seleno-terephthalate derivatives (S1 and S2) were synthesized as potential anticarcinogenic compounds. In a previous study, they were found to have antibacterial and/or antifungal activity, while they did not show any mutagenic action. Such compounds were investigated in the present study for their antimutagenic activity. Sodium azide, hydrogen peroxide, and 4-nitro-o-phenylenediamine, as known mutagens for strains TA100, TA102, and TA98 of Salmonella typhimurium, respectively… Show more

“…12 Iron selenocarboxylates show antifungal, antibacterial effects and are active substrates against cancer cells. 14,15 In the past two decades, we have developed a synthetic methodology for iron complexes of the general formula CpFe(CO) 2 EQ (E= S, Se, Q= COR, 16,17 SO 2 R, 18,19 COCO 2 R, 20 CO 2 R, 21,22 C(S)OR, 23,24 C(O) SR, 25,26 CS 2 R 27 ). This methodology involves the interaction of iron sulfides or selenide bridged dimers (l-E x )[CpFe(CO) 2 ] 2 (E = S, x = 2-4; E = Se, x = 1) with the corresponding chlorides (QCl).…”

“…Many studies described the antimicrobial activity of selenium containing compounds specifically against several strains of bacteria causing nosocomial infections or forming biofilm, such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus (Mosolygó et al, 2019). Moreover, selenium containing heterocyclic compounds are well-known for their antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antioxidant, antiinflammatory, antileishmanial, and antimutagenic properties (Leyck and Parnham, 1990;Tapiero et al, 2003;Al-Smadi and Al-Momani, 2008;Maslat et al, 2010;Díaz et al, 2019;Spengler et al, 2019).…”
