Antimony and bismuth cooperation to enhance the broad yellow photoluminescence of zero-dimensional hybrid halide

Abstract: The incorporation of Sb3+ greatly enhanced the photoluminescence quantum yield of (TMEDA)3Bi2Cl12·H2O from 1% to 38%, the yellow emission originates from the relatively distant highly distorted inorganic octahedra in the structure.

“…The absorption bands at 260 nm (C band) are derived from the 1 S 0 ( 1 A 1g ) → 1 P 1 ( 1 T 1u ) allowed transition. The above bands are consistent with the ns 2 electron transition pattern in Sb 3+ -doped OIMHs. , The PLE band of (PPA) 6 In 1– x Sb x Br 9 has nearly the same positions of the Sb 3+ absorption bands (Figure S7c). The asymmetric double excitation band at 365 and 380 nm corresponds to the A band, and the singlet excitation band at 324 nm corresponds to the B band.…”

“…This means that the [InCl 6 ] octahedron is easily distorted, and the degree of distortion of the inorganic polyhedra in 0D OIMHs is closely related to STEs. 41 The degree of deformation of the pristine [InCl 6 ] 3− octahedron and the [InCl 6 ] 3− octahedron doped with 15% Sb can be calculated using eqn (1) and (2): 42 where Δ d is the variance of the bond length of In–Cl and σ 2 is the variance of the bond angle of Cl–In–Cl. These two parameters are usually used to evaluate the degree of polyhedron distortion.…”
