Antimonium Tartaricum as a Possible Homeopathic Prophylactic Remedy in the COVID-19 Epidemic

Abstract: The current COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) epidemic has proved challenging due to its high impact on physical and mental health. According to Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, in an epidemic the most severe symptoms of the clinical condition presented by the population in question should be the basis for selecting the medication that is as similar as possible to them, and which should be administered to individuals who have been exposed to the disease but have not yet developed it. This medicine is ca… Show more

“…8 9 10 A community-based prophylaxis trial of the combination homeopathic remedy PrevengHo-Vir is ongoing in Cuba as an add-on therapy along with standard measures for the prevention of influenza, dengue and emerging viral infections, with preliminary but encouraging results. 11 A few homeopathic prophylactics have been proposed based on theories (e.g., Antimonium tartaricum ) 12 or on preliminary, non-controlled findings only (e.g., Mercurius solubilis ). 13 On assumptive grounds, some medicines have also been proposed for investigation, including those made from convalescent plasma, 14 or some “repurposed” homeopathic medicines, e.g., Bryonia alba , Calendula officinalis , Passiflora incarnata and Zingiber officinale .…”

“…Homeoprophylaxsis imposed by an advisory of Ministry of AYUSH named Arsenic album 30C was also intervened in the COVID-19 pandemic [6]. Other homeopathic medicines like Camphor, Zinc muriaticum, Antimonium tartum, Bryonia alba, Cinchona officinalis, Phosphorus, Gelsemium sempervivum, Mercuris solubilis were also intervened with expert opinions from the homeopathic fraternity [7][8][9]. These guidelines were formed from sources of Case Reports, Materia Medica Pura, Reportorial analysis of COVID-19 cases (Individualized method and Genus Epidemicus), however documenting as per the guidelines of World Health Organisation (WHO) and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for an evidencebased medicine still persist a challenge [10].…”

“…A number of source books of Materia Medica were consulted to cross-check the salient features of the probable homeopathic remedies. [4][5][6][7] We also took into account the remedies prescribed for outpatients of the hospital who had favorable outcomes, and the published papers suggesting a probable genus epidemicus for COVID-19 in different parts of India and elsewhere in the world, [8][9][10][11][12][13] as well as the most frequently indicated remedies with favorable outcomes in prognostic factor research. 14,15 Some medicines emerged as the most likely prophylactic remedies: Bryonia alba, Mercurius solubilis, Arsenicum album, Phosphorus and Pulsatilla nigricans.…”

“…1 2 5 Thus, different medicines may be required every year for different episodes of the same epidemic disease, as was also advocated by Dr. Hahnemann. 6 Different remedies may even be indicated in different geographical locations during a single time-point of an ongoing epidemic: Arsenicum album , 18 Cinchona officinalis 19 or Antimonium tartaricum 8 in different areas of Brazil; Bryonia alba in Spain. 9 Moreover, differing prescribing practices in different parts of the world, the varying methods adopted to identify the genus epidemicus , as well as progressively emerging variants of the virus, are further potential contributors in deciding on a genus epidemicus .…”
