“…Most of this 'uncommon but widely dispersed' pattern of distribution is attributable to resistance to sulfamethoxazole alone (gatS) and presumably reflects previous widespread use of sulphonamide drugs in the population of herds surveyed. 13 Importantly, the sulphonamide family of antimicrobials has a low 'importance rating' in human medicine. 30 Multiple resistance phenotypes are likely to be of much greater interest in public health and, although some were present in the population studied, they were uncommon.…”

“…In 1993, cattle owners from this area who sent residue-affected calves (beef and dairy) to slaughter were surveyed to establish what antimicrobials were used to treat calves. 13 From this it was found that tetracyclines, penicillins, sulphonamides and aminoglycosides were commonly used.…”
Antimicrobial resistance was uncommon in E coli in the population of dairy cows studied. HGMF and image analysis is an effective tool for detecting rare forms of resistant E coli that are not uniformly distributed in livestock populations.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
