Antimicrobial Effects of Platelet-rich Plasma against Selected Oral and Periodontal Pathogens

Abstract: Alkaline proteases have biotechnological importance due to their activity and stability at alkaline pH. 56 bacteria, capable of growing under alkaline conditions were isolated and their alkaline protease activities were carried out at different parameters to determine their optimum alkaline protease production conditions. Seven isolates were showed higher alkaline protease production capacity than the reference strains. The highest alkaline protease producing isolates (103125 U/g), E114 and C265, were identifi… Show more

“…Among these studies, Mala and Srividya (2010) reported isolating two different isoenzymes with molecular weights of 66 and 18 KDa from a Bacillus species. Tekin et al (2012) reported similar results, isolating alkaline proteases from Bacillus cohnii APT5.…”

“…PRF can be activated immediately by endogenous thrombin during centrifugation process. The limitation use of bovine thrombin since its restriction from the routine use because of the major risk of coagulopathy from antibody formation [12]. The use of CaCl 2 and thrombin to coagulate the platelets into a gel form and activate the containing GF initiate a burst release and activation of all the GF's of PRP all at once, therefore, the duration of action of PRP is short.…”

“…Endogenous thrombin, released during centrifugation, can quickly activate PRF. The restriction on the usual use of bovine thrombin due to the high risk of coagulopathy from antibody development [ 31 ] has limited its use. The use of calcium chloride and thrombin to coagulate platelets into a gel and engage the contained GF initiates a burst release and activation of all the GFs of PRP simultaneously; thus, the period of action of PRP is brief.…”
