Antimicrobial effect of MTAD, Tetraclean, Cloreximid, and sodium hypochlorite on three common endodontic pathogens

Abstract: 5.25% NaOCl showed a high antimicrobial activity against anaerobic bacteria. MTAD and Tetraclean showed a high action against both, strictly anaerobic and facultative anaerobic bacteria. Chlorexidine + Cetrimide (Cloreximid) showed the lowest antibacterial activity against both, facultative and strictly anaerobic bacteria tested.

“…In another study, Khademi et al (13) found the antibacterial substantivity of 2.6% NaOCl was significantly lesser than 2% CHX and 100 mg /ml doxycycline. Giardino et al (22) revealed that MTAD and Tetraclean induced the largest zone of microbial inhibition of E. faecalis cultured under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions, when compared with NaOCl which is in accordance to the findings of the present study. Another thing concerning the substantivity of root canal irrigants is the time of dentin treatment to induce substantivity.…”

“…QMiX demonstrated stronger antibacterial action than CHX after 1 min of contact with E. faecalis biofilm (Stojicic et al 2012).
