Antimicrobial and Dyeing Properties of Reactive Dyes with Thiazolidinon-4-one Nucleus

Abstract: Four imines, the condensation products of 2,4-dioxo-4-phenylbutanal with four primary amines, were condensed with mercapto acetic acid to obtain thiazolidinon-4-ones which on subsequent condensation with vanillin and isatin separately yielded eight thiazolidin-4-one derivatives. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were elucidated by elemental analysis, molecular weight determination, IR and 1H and 13C NMR spectral measurements. Antibacterial and antifungal properties were studied in vitro agai… Show more

“…Isatin was rst discovered as a product of indigo oxidation, 9 and has been recognised as an endogenous human biomolecule as found to be an adrenaline metabolite. It is evident from the literature that isatin derivatives are associated with a diverse range of biological activities including anti-inammatory, 10,11 anti-nociceptive, 12 antibacterial, [13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20] antifouling, 21 antiviral, 22 and anticorrosion. 23 Despite this broad spectrum of activities, little research has been performed on their incorporation into biomaterials.…”

“…e sample-impregnated paper discs were transferred with sterile forceps to a nutrient agar plate seeded with bacteria and incubated at 37 °C for 24 hours. In antifungal sensitivity examination, similar procedures were followed excluding that paper discs impregnated with samples were transferred with sterile forceps to PDA seeded with spore suspensions of Aspergillus niger and Rhizoctonia bataticola at room temperature for 3 days [11].…”
