Antimicrobial activity of commonly used antibiotics and DNA fingerprint analysis of Pseudomonas aeruginosa obtained from clinical isolates and unchlorinated drinking water in Korea, 2010

Abstract: Pseudomonas aeruginosa exists in various environments, and can cause mild or serious infections resulting in a wide range of symptoms. In this study, we collected bacterial isolates from hospitalized patients and unchlorinated drinking water, in Korea, 2010. The water-borne and clinical isolates were compared using colony morphology, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and random amplification of polymorphic DNA analysis. We first compared morphological features of the water-borne and clinical isolates. The … Show more

“…Among the VIM types, VIM-2 is the most dominant worldwide and was particularly detected in Europe (Livermore and Woodford, 2000). Furthermore, carbapenem-resistant MBL-possessing P. aeruginosa has been reported with increasing frequency in Korea (Oh et al, 2003;Lee et al, 2009;Kim et al, 2011). In this study, we analyzed the levels of multidrug-resistant clinical P. aeruginosa isolated from a secondary hospital in Korea in 2010.…”

“…Pseudomonas aeruginosa는 자연적 방어가 손상된 사람에게 감염되는 기회주의적 병원체로, 병원, 물, 토양 및 대기 등 많은 자연과 인공환경에서 서식한다 (Lee et al, 1999;Arora et al, 2011;Bae, 2005;Kim et al, 2011;Mahmoud et al, 2013). P. aeruginosa 는 병원 내 감염 (Kang et al, 2011)과 다중 내성 (Hota et al, 2009 (Table 1).…”
