ABSTRACT Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease in form of papule-shaped lesion and erythematous plaques with thick white scales. The pathogenesis of psoriasis involves IL-23/Th-17 cytokine pathway that contributes the activation of T-lymphocytes and proinflammatory cytokines. Treatment of psoriasis using methotrexate has inhibitory effect of the synthesis of nucleic acid towards T-lymphocytes and keratinocytes. Ciplukan (Physalis angulata L.) has anti-inflammatory potential effect which contains steroid, flavonoid, alkaloid, and physalin that may inhibit lymphocyte activation and proinflammatory cytokine production. The study is used the method of experimental study with post test only with control group design. Thirty five female mices were divided into 7 groups. The parameters of this study is anti-psoriatic (PASI and Baker’s score) and lymphocytes count in psoriasis mice model. The results of Kruskal-Wallis, PASI and Baker’s score showed that p=0,001 (p<0,05) and the result of lymphocytes count using One Way ANOVA showed that p=0,001 (p<0,05). The 800 mg/kgBW dose of ciplukan extract showed the largest decrease on PASI score and lymphocytes count, and the 1200 mg/kgBW dose one showed the largest decrease on the Baker’s score. The present of the 800 mg/kgBW dose of ciplukan extract gives the most optimal effect in reducing PASI score and skin tissue lymphocytes count in psoriasis mice model that were not significantly different with the treatment control group, while 1200 mg/kgBW dose one gives the most optimal effect in reducing Baker’s score that were significantly different with the treatment control group. Inflammation is a natural response that occurs in tissue damage caused by oxidative stress. Yellow root plant is one of the plants from the Menispermaceae family that contains bioactive compounds with several potential pharmacological activities, including as anti-inflammatory. The purpose of this study was to test the effect of administration of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and 70% ethanol extract of yellow root on anti-inflammatory activity and test the most optimal anti-inflammatory activity on the type of solvent of yellow root extract (Arcangelisia flava (L.) Merr.). This study used a method of stabilizing red blood cell membranes in vitro which was measured using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Stabilization was observed through the inhibitory ability of yellow root extract against red blood cell lysis due to the induction of a hypotonic solution which was then compared with a positive control (Ibuprofen). Results showed that n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and 70% ethanol extracts of yellow root can stabilize red blood cell membranes. Data analysis showed significant significance that there was a significant percent difference in red blood cell membrane stabilization in the four test groups. The most optimal anti-inflammatory activity was found in yellow root n-hexane extract at a concentration of 250 ppm which was 48.76% comparable to the positive control (Ibuprofen) at a concentration of 50 ppm of 59.09%.

Premna serratifolia known as bebuas has long been used by Malay comunity for both food and traditional medicine. The most notable advantage of this plant is to heal woman after childbirth and to raise the notion that contains anti-inflammatory bioactive compounds. In this study, the hexane extract of bebuas was only contained steroids. Meanwhile the ethanol extract contained various secondary metabolites such as phenolics, alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids and saponins. The ethanol extract was further separated since the targeted compound isolate was an alkaloid. The isolate obtained was a yellow crystal which transformed to yellow oil after being exposed to air. The anti-inflammatory evaluation of the compound gave a result with a strong activity with ED50 = 4.06 mg/KgBW. Characterization by UV-Vis and FT-IR showed that the isolate’s spectra pattern had similarities with bufotenine. It revealed that the isolate shared the same basic skeleton with the bufotenine, especially the indole skeleton. Furthermore, it also shared the same physical form with bufotenine. These evidences strengthened the assumption that the isolate was an indole alkaloid.
