“…Our finding of antihyperglycemic activity of methanolic extract of H. pubescens bark is supported and are similar to findings documented by Bandawane et al, [20] and Bibave et al, [19]. Bandawane et al, documented that methanolic extract of H. pubescens bark (200, 400 mg/kg) significantly (p<0.01) reduced the increase in blood glucose levels at 60, 90, and 120 min in glucose loaded rats when compared with diabetic control rats [20].…”

Similar findings of antihyperglycemic effect were documented by Bibave et al, with aqueous and methanolic extract of H. pubescens bark on normal rats.…”

“…In a similar study on diabetic rats, decreased levels of serum cholesterol, uric acid, aspartate transaminase, triglycerides, creatinine and blood glucose were observed. Another study also demonstrated that a hydro-methanolic seed extract of H. pubescens causes inhibition of α glucosidase (a gut exoenzyme that releases glucose from di- and oligo-saccharides and aryl glucosides in the diet, thereby increasing absorption of glucose from the intestine) [ 110 ]. An ethanol extract of its seeds also prevented weight loss in diabetic rats and corrected biochemical parameters.…”
