Antihelical shaping of prominent ears using conchal cartilage‐grafting adhesion

Abstract: The conchal cartilage-grafting adhesion technique creates a naturally shaped smooth antihelix, allowing the prominent ear to predictably and permanently set back. We believe that the method is indicated in adult patients showing thick and strong auricular cartilage.

“…19,20 In contrast, other surgeons have reported on combination approaches (which include anterior scoring or other methods of cartilage shaping) together with posterior sutures, without a similar increase in complications. [21][22][23][24] However, among this group, it should be noted that the methods described by Marcevich 21 and Park 23 in particular are relatively complex and might be difficult to reproduce by other surgeons. By comparison, earFold is a technique that should be relatively easy to understand and whose outcomes should be relatively reproducible.…”

“…However, it is generally acknowledged that there are challenges with suture‐based techniques. These include difficulties with accurate placement of sutures and the need for more extensive dissection, which can then lead to problems with hematomas or infection (Table ) . The most common complications are recurrence of prominence or problems with asymmetry, both of which may result in a need for reoperation.…”
