Anticonvulsant activity of Caryocar coriaceum Wittm. fixed pulp oil against pentylenetetrazol-induced seizures

Abstract: Natural products can be a valuable source of substances with potential anticonvulsant activity and improved safety profile. Further studies are needed to evaluate the mechanisms underlying the anticonvulsant effects of Caryocar coriaceum Wittm. fixed pulp oil as well as the potential of the oil as a source of new anticonvulsant compounds.

“…At day 7, animals were subjected to open field, neuroscore, and pick-up test to determine neuromotor performance, locomotion, and anxiety-like behavior. During the days 8 and 9, object recognition test, was carried out to evaluate the short-term and long-term memory. After the long-term memory test, the anxiety-like behavior was measured in the elevated plus maze test at day 9.…”

“…Oliveira et al [57] evaluated the effect of C. coriaceum oil in the treatment of seizures. In general, the authors first administered the fixed oil from the pulp of C. coriaceum to rats in increasing doses (25, 50 or 100 mg/kg).…”
