Antibody-labeled Gold Nanoparticles Based Immunosensor for the Detection of Thyroxine Hormone

Abstract: Immunosensors are used to provide simple, quick and effective ways to detect analytes for the diagnosis of a number of diseases. This work reports on a novel optical immunosensor based on thyroxine antibody labeled gold nanoparticles (anti-T4/C-AuNPs) for the sensitive detection of the thyroxine (T4) hormone. T4 hormone is a reliable diagnostic biomarker present in the human blood serum that is necessary for normal neural development and cellular metabolism. The free T4 hormone, a major key player of the total… Show more

“…Aggregation of AuNPs often causes a change in the color due to the surface plasmon resonance coupling. However, fainting in the red color without a shift in the absorption wavelength was reported in thyroxine hormone detection by antibody-labeled AuNPs . This was likely caused by the sufficient separation of each AuNP by the antibody and antigen even in the aggregates.…”

“…[25][26][27][28][29][30] Some of the hormones, including DA, EP, NE, and 5-HT are also recognized as neurotransmitters, whereas T3 and T4 are thyroid hormones that were closely related to thyroid function. 31 In this section, some recently reported examples of representative voltammetric sensing platforms and their applications in human serum sample analyses are discussed, as summarized in Table 1. Both direct oxidation and biorecognition elements involved detection strategies were used with various nanomaterials to improve the sensitivity via helping electron transfer rate and electrocatalytic activity, as well as enriching the surface active sites.…”

“…13 Antibody-labeled AuNP immune-sensors can sense TH up to 9.11 pg ml À1 . 17 Herein, we report a simple, green, cost-effective and timesaving colorimetric method for sensing both AA and TH using AgNPs synthesized from Elsholtzia blanda Benth. ower (EBF) capped with CTAB (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide) (Ag-EGCG-CTAB).…”
