Antibiotic resistance and molecular epidemiology of the beta‐lactamase‐producing Haemophilus influenzae isolated in Chongqing, China

Abstract: This study aimed to determine the antibiotic resistance and molecular epidemiology of Haemophilus influenzae isolated from children with acute respiratory infection in Chongqing, China. To this end, 1967 H. influenzae isolates from 2006 to 2009 were analysed regarding β-lactamase production and antibiotic resistance. Ninety-nine β-lactamase-producing H. influenzae isolates from 2010 were analysed for antibiotic resistance and promoter regions of bla(TEM) (-1) . β-lactamase production was found in 35.8% (705/19… Show more

“…A previous report in Chongqing, China, noted that bla TEM−1 encoding β-lactamase was the main mechanism of ampicillin-resistance of H. influenzae isolates. Moreover, diversity in the promoter, and the Prpt.b promoter may be related to high resistance of H. influenzae to ampicillin (14). The resistance rate of ampicillin in our study (2015-2018) was 45.10% which was higher than β-lactamase production rates of 33.3%.…”

“…Production of β-lactamase was detected by BD BBL TM Cefinase TM (BD laboratories, Franklin Lakes, NJ, USA). The bla TEM−1 and bla ROB−1 genes were identified by PCR as previously reported, respectively (14). The gene ftsI was sequenced and compared with that of Rd KW20 strain to determined the mutation of PBP3 (15).…”

“…All isolates were tested for the production of β-lactamase by the chromogenic cephalosporin nitrocefin method using known β-lactamase positives as controls. The TEM-1 and ROB-1 genes were identified by PCR as previously reported ( 16 ). The deduced amino acid sequence of the PBP3 transpeptidase region was aligned with the corresponding sequence from H. influenzae Rd KW20.…”

“…In China, the rate of beta-lactamase positive was 35.8% [20]. In another Chinese report, the rate of beta-lactamase positive was 61% and the rate of tetracycline resistant was 94.5% [21].…”
