Antibiotic advances: soil, sea and perverse disincentives

Abstract

The threat of increasing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) means there is pressing need for new antibiotics. This article discusses the mechanisms driving AMR, some of the innovative approaches being taken to develop novel antibacterials and the disincentives that hinder progress.
