Antibacterial Compounds from Glycosmis puberula Twigs

Abstract: The first phytochemical investigation of Glycosmis puberula twigs led to the isolation and identification of a new quinolone alkaloid, glycosmispuberulone (1), along with ten known compounds (2-11). The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analyses and comparison with previously reported data. Their antibacterial activities against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria were also evaluated.

“…This plant grows up to 36 m in height, has a trunk with a diameter of up to 60 cm, and buttress roots with a diameter of up to 1.5 m. 1 In Indonesia, this species is distributed throughout Kalimantan (Borneo), Java, Maluku, Sulawesi, and Sumatera. 2 Several types of compounds have been isolated from the Dysoxylum genus, including alkaloids, 3,4 biflavonoids, 5 sesquiterpenes, 6,7 triterpenes, [8][9][10] and limonoids. 11,12 Previously, we discovered that an ethanolic extract of this plant collected from Pangandaran Nature Reserve in West Java Province, Indonesia, showed potential antiproliferative 13 and antiplasmodial 14 activities against MCF-7 human breast cancer cell lines and Plasmodium falciparum, respectively.…”
