Antibacterial Behaviour of Cu2O Nanoparticles Against Escherichia coli; Reactivity of Fehling's Solution on Manihot esculenta Leaf Extract

Abstract: We report a simple, low cost and eco-friendly synthesis of Cu2O nanoparticles by reduction of Fehling's solution using Manihot esculenta leaf extract containing reducing sugars which act as reducing agent. The purification process of the Cu2O product does not require expensive methods, since a solid product is obtained from a reaction in liquid phase. The result indicates that aldehyde group present in reducing sugars plays excellent role in the formation of cuprous oxide nanoparticles in the solution. The ant… Show more

“…Normal cells and the VBNC cells (<0.1 CFU/mL cells determined by plate counting) were treated at −20°C or induced by CuSO 4 of 0.025 mmol/L. The glucose content was determined by the consumption of Fehling's solution [28, 29]. The (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 was measured by ion chromatography, where the flow speed and pressure were 0.81 mL/min and 1,546 psi [30].…”

“…In 2021, Al-Hakkani et al developed C@Cu2O@Cu nanocomposites utilizing Vicia faba seeds aqueous extract as a mediator (16). In another study, Ramesh et al investigated the development of novel antibacterial Cu2O NPs utilizing Manihot esculenta leaf extract (17). However, there is a paucity of research focused on developing different strategies to overcome the recognized challenges associated with using avocado waste to synthesize nanostructures at low temperatures.…”

“…The reported conventional synthesis of Copper oxide NPs like chemical route [10], hydrothermal method [11], solid-state reaction method [12], thermal decomposition ofprecursor [13],etc leaves some toxic chemicals absorbed at the surface, which can cause adverse outcomes in medical applications.A variety of plant extracts such as Aloe veraLeaf [14],Ixora Coccinea [15], Pomegranate peel [16], Magnolia kobus [17], Carica Papaya [18],Manihot esculenta [19],Tridax procumbens [20], Azadirachta indica [21], Saraca indica [22]have been utilized for the greener way production of CuO NPs.…”
