“…The effect of C3G was expressed in a dose-dependent manner, and the biofilm inhibitory effect in the bronchial tube was also recognized by SEM analysis. As there are several reports of potential antibiofilm candidate drugs against P. gingivalis such as the fruit and seed of Elettaria cardamomum , resveratrol, azithromycin, carvacrol and terpinen-4-ol, and curcumin [2630], there are no established antibiofilm drugs for inhibiting biofilm formation of P. gingivalis in western medicine. These results suggest that LCEE treatment would be more beneficial for antibiofilm formation therapy of P. gingivalis as well as plaque control.…”

“…Cardamom is an effective immunomodulatory agent due to its anti-inflammatory effects. It is capable of downregulating pro-inflammatory cytokines (Figure 5b) [108]; suppressing T helper (TH)1 cytokine release and enhancing Spices-Reservoir of Health Benefits DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5772/intechopen.96471 T helper (TH)2 cytokine release [109]. Methanol and petroleum ether extract of cardamom reduced 70% and 50% lesions in ethanol-induced ulcer mice model at 500 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg respectively exhibiting gastroprotective effects [110].…”

“…A constituent of cardamom, cardamonin inhibited the formation of new cancer stem cells in case of breast cancer by effectively suppressing the up-regulation of IL-8 and, MCP-1 cytokines and activation of NF-κB pathway [111]. Antibacterial effects of cardamom has also been demonstrated [108,112].…”

“…The ethyl acetate fraction from the leaves of Schismus fasciculatus contained kaempferol, quercetin, and agathist flavone, which showed moderate antibacterial activity against different tested strains (IC 50 0.9 mg/mL) [44]. In addition, both cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) fruit and seed extracts exerted remarkable antibacterial effect against Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Prevotella intermedia [45].…”
