“…H 2 O extracts of G. applanatum from India exhibited similar AB susceptibility against S. aureus (inhibition zone 12 mm) and no activity against P. aeruginosa , while higher activity was observed against E. coli [ 34 ]. Different activities obtained by Karaman et al [ 13 ] on different strains of S. aureus , demonstrated that the fungal extracts were target-specific at the intraspecies level, which is also in accordance with the results of this study. G. pfeifferi exhibited the highest AB susceptibility against E. coli (21 mm), which is in accordance with the report [ 19 ]; among Gram-negative bacteria, E. coli was the most affected by volatile oil isolated from this fungus (15 mm).…”

“…Despite wide distribution, just a few species, mainly from G. lucidum complex (currently thirteen well-delineated species recognized in this group, including G. resinaceum ), were used in traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for over two millennia and over the last few decades it has gained a lot of interest in Western medicine [ 9 ]. In addition to its well-studied anticancer, antioxidative, hepatoprotective and immunomodulatory activities [ 10 ], various Ganoderma extracts have also been found to have antibacterial (AB) activity [ 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 ], as well as antifungal (AF) [ 18 , 19 ] and antiviral (AV) [ 20 , 21 ] properties. The presence of phenolic compounds was linked to the AB activity of extracts from G. lucidum [ 12 , 22 , 23 ] and G. resinaceum [ 24 ], while terpenoids from G. applanatum have been connected to the antioxidant (AO) and antimicrobial (AM) activities [ 14 ].…”

“…Regarding the fact that macrofungi are commonly collected either randomly or by locals in forests, it would be necessary to perform initial screening for possible antimicrobial activities by using crude aqueous or alcohol extractions. Proper selection of the extraction procedure directly determines the antimicrobial activity of the extract [23].…”

“…Mushrooms actually are mycofactories as they produce variety of secondary metabolites, including phenolic compounds, polyketides, terpenes and steroids (Turkoglu et al, 2007). Numerous bioactive properties of mushrooms, such as antioxidant, antitumor (Ferreira et al, 2010;Puttaraju et al, 2006;Vaz et al, 2012;Wasser, 2002;Zaidman et al, 2005), and antimicrobial activities (Barros et al, 2007, Karaman et al, 2009Karaman et al, 2012;Stojković et al, 2013) were discovered and addressed to abovementioned compounds. It is assumed that the presence of these com-pounds provides protection against certain chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, and neurological disorders (Zhou et al, 2009).…”
