Antibacterial Activity of Syzygium aromaticum (Clove) Bud Oil and Its Interaction with Imipenem in Controlling Wound Infections in Rats Caused by Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus

Abstract: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one of the leading causes of infection worldwide. Clove oil’s ability to inhibit the growth of MRSA was studied through in vitro and in vivo studies. The phytochemical components of clove oil were determined through gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. The antibacterial effects of clove oil and its interaction with imipenem were determined by studying MIC, MBC, and FIC indices in vitro. The in vivo wound-healing effect of the clove oil and… Show more

“…The addition of clove oil actually increased antimicrobial activities against all test microbes except C. krusei. Clove oil has been reported for its good antibacterial effect, ability to heal wounds faster, and its ability to diminish the microbial load in wounds [65]. Clove oil causes a considerable reduction in the quantity of ergosterol, a specific fungal cell membrane component [66].…”

“…In ammatory phase, proliferation or granulation phase, and remodeling or maturation phase are the three interactive and overlapping phases of wound healing (Saporito et One of the biggest issues when treating wounds is the development of infections because they cause the patient's systemic harm by delaying the lesion's healing. Additionally, it is important to note that the immune system's response is exacerbated by the growth of the microbial load, which can result in sepsis and even critical colonization (Wang et al, 2021;Alanazi et al, 2022).…”
