Antibacterial Activity of Mouthwash Incorporated with Silica Nanoparticles against S. aureus, S. mutans, E. faecalis: An in-vitro Study

Abstract: Silica based nanoparticles are used in various fields of medical sciences to diagnose, control disease, for genetic disorders, owing to their size, surface area, biocompatibility and low toxicity. In dentistry, silica nanoparticles have been used as dental filler, teeth whitening agent but limited evidence is there regarding antimicrobial activity against oral pathogens. Therefore, the current study was conducted to assess the anti-bacterial activity of mouthwash incorporated with silica nanoparticles against … Show more

“…Parkinson's disease (PD) is the most common neurodegenerative and movement disorder, a black tea polyphenol exhibited neuroprotective effects on rotenone-induced apoptosis in SH-SY5Y cells. Advanced studies can be done with this plant extract with a different activity [46]. The limitations of the present study is the small number of concentration and in vitro study.…”

“…In sol-gel reaction, there is hydrolysis and condensation of Tetra-ethoxy silane, where it was first hydrolyzed to silicic acid, followed by a condensation reaction leading to the formation of Si-O-Si bonds. Silica nanoparticles incorporated in mouthwash showed a good potential as an antimicrobial agent that maintains control of biofilm, preventing initial colonization of bacteria [42].…”

“…Nanotechnology deals with particles which are less than 100 nm in size and have important roles in medicines, industries and drug gene delivery systems. Nanomaterials are particles having nanoscale measurement and they are estimated as small particles with upgraded synergist reactivity, warm conductivity, nonstraight optical execution and compound relentlessness attributable to its enormous surface territory to its volume proportion [1,2]. Nanoparticles have begun being considered as nano antibiotics in light of their antimicrobial activities [3].In today's world, nanoparticles have been incorporated into different modern, wellbeing, nourishment, feed, space, compound, and beauty care products which requires a green and condition cordial way to deal with their synthesis [1].…”

The size of the nanoparticles is similar to most of the biological molecules and structures therefore the nanoparticles can be used for both in vitro and in vivo biomedical research and applications [4,5].…”
