Antibacterial activities of Bidens pilosa L, Hoslundia opposita Vahl, and Ageratum conyzoides L against some common wound pathogens

Namuga Catherine,
Muwonge Haruna,
Lubwama Margaret
et al.

Abstract: Bacterial infection cause delayed wound healing, and the rising cases of antibiotic resistance call for alternative solutions. This research aims to determine and compare the antibacterial activity of selected research plants when extracted by different methods using different solvents. The plants were extracted with ethanol, methanol, acetone, water, chloroform, and ethyl acetate using Soxhlet and maceration extraction. Agar well diffusion and resazurin dye reduction method were used to determine the antibact… Show more

“…The extracts used in this study were ethyl acetate extract of A. conyzoides extracted by soxhlet and ethanol extract of B. pilosa extracted by Soxhlet extraction. These plants extracts were chosen from preliminary tests done to ascertain their antibacterial activity (Catherine et al, 2022). These extracts showed better antibacterial activity than others thus, were chosen for further assessment.…”
