Antibacterial Activities of Actinomycete Isolates Collected from Soils of Rajshahi, Bangladesh

Abstract: This study was performed to isolate actinomycete colonies having antibacterial activity from soil samples collected from different places around Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Thirty actinomycete colonies were isolated in pure culture from five soil samples using Starch-casein-nitrate-agar medium. The isolates were grouped in five color series based on their aerial mycelia color and screened for their antibacterial activity against a range of test bacteria. Sixteen isolates (53.3%) were found to have moderate to high a… Show more

“…In the present study, we have isolated 32 actinomycetes from rhizosphere soils of Shikaripura by serial dilution followed by plating on SCN agar. SCN agar has been widely used for isolation of actinomycetes 6,[14][15][16][17][18][19] . The isolates were screened preliminary for antibacterial activity by Cross streak method.…”

“…Among them the species with the highest production of secondary antimicrobial metabolites are streptomyces, bacillus, and myxococcus species [26]. Also microorganisms represent the largest source of natural products to date in where 45% are produced by actinomycetes, 38% by fungi and 17% by unicellular bacteria [29,30]. Evaluating the causes of the decrease in the isolation of new chemical entities Berdy 2.…”

“…lycopersici by cross steak method as per the protocols of Rahman et al, (2011). Actinobacterial isolates are streaked at the centre of SCBA media plates, and then plates are incubated at 28 o C for seven days after that fungal disc of 6 mm diameter is bored at 90 0 angles on both sides at defined length.…”
