Abstract: Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is currently the leading cause of death worldwide. Its pathophysiological basis includes endothelial dysfunction, macrophage activation, vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) proliferation, lipid metabolism, platelet aggregation, and changes in the gut microbiota.
