Anti-Viral Activities of Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cell-Derived Small Extracellular Vesicles Against Human Respiratory Viruses

Abstract: The endemic and pandemic caused by respiratory virus infection are a major cause of mortality and morbidity globally. Thus, broadly effective antiviral drugs are needed to treat respiratory viral diseases. Small extracellular vesicles derived from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (U-exo) have recently gained attention as a cell-free therapeutic strategy due to their potential for safety and efficacy. Anti-viral activities of U-exo to countermeasure respiratory virus-associated diseases are currently… Show more

“…As one of the critical stem cell derivatives, ucMSC-EXO contain a variety of growth factors, cytokines, and RNA that improve cell function and could be used as an effective cell-free therapy in many diseases [ 24 , 25 , 26 , 27 ]. Here, we further investigated the therapeutic effect of ucMSC-EXO on the H 2 O 2 -induced oxidative damage of HSFs.…”

“…Most studies have focused on the antiviral effects of miRNAs contained in exosomes secreted from MSCs [9,[28][29][30], but the antiviral effects of MSC secretomes have not been investigated. Therefore, naïve feline AD-MSC secretome were collected as CM in this study.…”
