“…Of the two remaining active cases, one had active perianal disease and the left colon looked otherwise normal [20]. The other had active terminal ileitis and systemic amyloidosis, and the colon also looked normal [17]. These features highlight an important need to keep CC in the differential diagnosis of persistent diarrhea in IBD patients, and to take random mucosal biopsies of the normal-looking colon before symptoms are attributed to IBS or other causes, even after successful treatment.…”

“…In the case of AA amyloidosis, it is reasonable to use combinations of treatments to ensure the best possible response. Although azathioprine combination treatments were used in many cases [3,22,24,27,30,32,34,35,37,38], unfortunately, they resulted in failure in many cases due to either progression of proteinuria or decline of renal function [3,32–34,38]. When using methotrexate, it resulted in either improvement of proteinuria or stabilizing of the disease, although it is not clear if that methotrexate combination with infliximab or adalimumab was used [3,22,34], and currently, the evidence does not support this combination [62].…”

“…There are several tools for amyloid typing, including immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, immunoelectron microscopy, and proteomic studies [14,46]. Unfortunately, amyloid typing was not used in 11 reported cases [3,23–29,32,35,36,38]. We found that AA amyloidosis may be accompanied by other related disorders beside IBD, such as arthropathy or arthritis, which was the most reported disorder [3,22,26,29,34], FMF [3], or other extraintestinal manifestations [3,34].…”

“…3 The use of antieTNF-a therapy to control the symptoms of AA amyloidosis, from chronic inflammatory diseases, is increasing. [4][5][6][7][8] Serra et al 5 reported on 5 patients who had Crohn disease complicated by AA amyloidosis. In one patient, adalimumab was used to control AA amyloidosis significantly involving the kidneys.…”
