“…Salicornia herbacea L Grasshort (Salicornia herbacea L., Amaranthaceae) is an edible halophytic species commonly found in salt marches (Kim et al, 2017). According to Lee, Kim, Kim, and Sohn (2016) this species can withstand l00 mM of NaCl, through the accumulation of shikimic acid, vitamin K1, and indole-3-carboxylic acid in root system as a primary response to salinity stress. Ermawati et al (2009) also reported that the gene ShTIP (Salicornia herbacea tonoplast intrinsic protein) was highly expressed in the shoots and roots under salt stress conditions which indicate its involvement in salt tolerance mechanisms through ionic transport regulation.…”

“…Salicornia herbacea contains several bioactive compounds which have been associated with various medicinal properties. In a recent study, Kang et al (2014) reported that the seed extracts of S. herbacea exhibit cytotoxic effects on HCT 116 and HT-29 colon cancer cells, while Lee et al (2016) suggested the use of seed extracts as potential anti-coagulation agents. Tuan et al (2015) found that the extract of S. herbacea possess anti-HMGB1 (high mobility group box 1 protein) activity, while some compounds isolated from the aerial parts of this species exhibited vascular protective activity against HMGB1 induced inflammatory reaction.…”
