Anti-Müllerian hormone as a predictor of reproductive potential

Abstract: Purpose of review Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), a marker of ovarian reserve, declines over a woman's reproductive lifespan. AMH is highly correlated with a woman's age and number of primordial ovarian follicles, and has been shown to predict time to menopause in women in their 40s. For these reasons, it was assumed that AMH levels could predict a woman's reproductive potential or serve as a ‘fertility test’. Recently, studies have sought to determine the association between AMH and fertility. … Show more

“…44 Even in women with extremely low AMH levels, the probability of pregnancy remains. 45 We observed a significantly decreased serum FSH level and upregulated ovarian FSHR after MGNC treatment under stress conditions. These results imply a more favorable status of granulosa cells to proliferate under FSH stimulation and improved follicle quality.…”

“…According to Fatima et al (2020), AMH reflects the ovarian reserve and is a predictor of success for several ART treatments. In patients undergoing ART therapies, serum AMH is the best endocrine indicator of follicular response to ovarian stimulation compared to other commonly used markers, such as FSH, estradiol, inhibin B, and patient age alone (Arce et al, 2014;Hawkins Bressler & Steiner, 2018). Compared to FSH, AMH seems to be more strongly associated with age (van Rooij et al, 2005;de Vet et al, 2019); in addition, AMH levels decrease before increases in FSH can be detected (de Vet et al, 2019).…”

“…Frauen mit AMH-Werten von weniger als 0,7 ng/ml hatten nach 12 Zyklen ähnliche Schwangerschaftsraten wie Frauen mit AMH-Werten darüber auch nach Anpassung an die Altersgruppe. Vier weitere Studien, darunter eine Sekundäranalyse mit über 1200 Frauen, bestätigten diese Ergebnisse [20,21].…”
