“…9 Consequently, it is rapidly being adopted by clinicians in reproductive medicine to individualize stimulation strategies and improve outcome counselling for women about to undergo assisted conception. In addition, AMH has been proposed as a means to predict the age of menopause, 18 with further longitudinal studies ongoing.…”

“…This indicator of the ageing of the neuroendocrine system should be considered seriously, since this physiological process, the decrease in the estradiol and progesterone levels -in addition to the decrease in inhibin B and AMH levels and the increase in FSH levels -could help predict the end of the reproductive period and could warn women and their health care providers about the beginning of the body structural and functional changes associated with the menopausal transition. It must be emphasized that the increasing level of FSH and the decreasing level of estradiol are currently accepted as the major endocrine markers of the menopausal transition in the clinical practice [93,94]. Both early and the late onsets of reproductive ageing in women lead to serious health consequences.…”

“…Inhibin-B is a product of the smaller nondominant antral follicles and, as such, reflects the ovarian follicle pool (Hall et al 1999). Serum inhibin-B levels decrease to very low or undetectable levels about 4 years before the last menstrual period (Sowers et al 2008a). In longitudinal studies, inhibin-B correlates with age only during a relatively short time before menopausal transition (van Rooij et al 2005).…”
