Anti-metastatic effect of curcumin analog pentagamaboronon-0-fructose (PGB-0-F) against 4T1 breast cancer cells

Abstract: Development of a chemotherapeutic agent and boron carrying pharmaceutical based on triple-negative breast cancer is important due to its metastatic progression. Metastases are often more dangerous than the primary tumor and they are responsible for 90% of all cancer deaths. The purpose of this study was to explore the anti-metastatic activities of the PGB-0 complex with fructose (PGB-0-F) against 4T1 breast cancer cells. A scratch wound healing assay was carried out to determine the migration inhibition abilit… Show more

“…Irradiation of neutron beam to the boron compound causes the boron-10 atoms to split to Li nuclei and alpha radiation (He nuclei) which only give intracell effects within cancer cells [8,9,11,[31][32][33][34] as shown in Fig. 6 [35,36].…”

“…Most importantly, curcumin has been reported to selectively kill tumor cells but not the normal cells [14,15]. However, due to its active methylene moiety, the clinical efficacy of curcumin is limited by its low stability at pH above 6.5 [16]. Therefore, curcumin analogs have been synthesized by modifying the methylene group into either cyclopentanone or cyclohexanone to improve their stability in biological medium as shown in Figure 2 [15][16].…”
