Anti-inflammatory properties of extracts from Chimonanthus nitens Oliv. leaf

Abstract: Chimonanthus nitens Oliv. (CN) is a species in the family Calycanthaceae. Its leaf is widely used to make traditional herbal tea in southern China and has a wide range of therapeutic effects. The profile of the ethanol extracts from CN leaves was identified by UPLC-QTOF-MS/MS. Forty seven compounds were determined including organic acids, phenolic acids and derivatives, flavonoids, coumarins, fatty acids and other compounds. The effect of the CN extracts on the inflammatory damage in zebrafish and in RAW 264.7… Show more

“…Extracts from Chimonanthus nitens Oliv. leaves also inhibited recruitment of neutrophils (and not macrophages), reduced the LPS-induced upregulation of il1b, il6 , and tnfa expression (Sun et al, 2017 ). The protein TtSOD, which inhibited tail wounding-induced neutrophil migration, was also shown to inhibit neutrophil infiltration upon LPS injection (Sheng et al, 2019 ).…”

“…In the LPS-induced inflammation model, GC administration was reported to inhibit the production of ROS and NO, the expression of pro-inflammatory genes, the recruitment of leukocytes, and the mortality (Wijesinghe et al, 2014 ; Yang et al, 2014 , 2017 ; Sun et al, 2017 ). In the Copper-induced inflammation model using CuSO 4 immersion of larvae, GCs also caused inhibition of neutrophil accumulation (d'Alençon et al, 2010 ).…”

“…Studies on Ch. nitens have focused on its calycanthine, chimonanthine, coumarins, flavonoids, phenolic acids, terpenoids, and volatile oils [45,46,47] and their pharmacologies (anti-inflammatory properties [48], antihyperglycaemic [49] and antihyperlipidaemic efficacies, and antioxidant capacity [50], inhibitory α-glucosidase activity [51], and toxicity [52]), phylogeography [45,53], and fingerprints [54,55]. “…Chimonanthus contains volatile oil, coumarins, alkaloids, alkene, sesquiterpenoids, flavonoids [3][4][5][6]. The main medicinal components are alkaloids [7][8][9][10]. Calycanthine is an important class of alkaloids extracted and isolated from the roots, leaves, flowers and fruits of Chimonanthus praecox [11,12].…”
