Anti-inflammatory effects of Cryptotympana atrataFabricius slough shed on contact dermatitis induced by dinitrofluorobenzene in mice

Abstract: Background:The slough shed of Cryptotympana atrata Fabricius is widely used to treat skin diseases in China, Japan, and Korea. Objective:To investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of C. atrata on contact dermatitis.Materials and Methods:We investigated the effects of C. atrata methanol extract (MECA) on ear swelling, histophathological changes and cytokine production in 1-fluoro-2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB)-induced contact dermatitis (CD) mice. Results:Topical application of MECA effectively inhibited enlar… Show more

“…In addition, topical as well systemic administration of dexamethasone reduces the spleen and body weight of laboratory animals, and such a decrease in spleen and body weight is generally recognized as one of the side effects caused by the suppression of immune function [38]. In this study, it was confirmed that parnassin exhibited similar efficacy to dexamethasone for AD in experimental animals.…”

“…Recent studies have shown that the CP has inhibitory effects on Th17 differentiation [ 6 ], allergic rhinitis [ 7 ], anaphylactic reactions [ 8 ], and contact dermatitis [ 36 ]. The CP improved kidney inflammation and fibrosis in IgA nephropathy rat models by reducing MCP-1, TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 levels [ 37 ].…”

“…A study found that the methanol extract of the cicada slough can effectively inhibit ear swelling and hyperplasia, through experiments on contact dermatitis in mice [26]. The curative effect of the cicada slough is mediated by reducing the production of TNF-α, IFN-g and IL-6 in inflammation, which indicates that the cicada slough has the medicinal value of anti-inflammatory effect [26]. The extract of the cicada slough also has the obvious bacteriostatic effect [27].…”
