Anti-Inflammatory Effects of an Aqueous Extract of Justicia Flava (Forsk) Vahl (Acanthaceae) in Rats

Abstract: Objective: Justicia flava is a plant commonly used in traditional medicine for the treatment of frictions, convulsions, body aches, pains, and fever. The aim of this study was to determine the anti-inflammatory properties of an aqueous extract of J. flava (AEJf) in rats. Methods: Thus, 36 rats were divided into six groups of six rats each for each test. Acute anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated by induction of plantar edema following injections of egg albumin, carrageenan, or histamine. AEJf and aspirin (… Show more

“…Polygonatum sibiricum is a perennial herb of Polygonatum in Liliaceae. Pharmacological studies have found that Polygonati Rhizoma has the functions of reducing blood sugar [1], antitumor [2], anti-infammatory [3], and so on. Although Polygonatum is the same source of medicine and food and its roots, leaves, fowers, and fruits can be eaten as recorded in Chinese Traditional Medical Books [4], however, modern studies mainly focus on the genetic diversity of P. sibiricum plants [5], transcriptome analysis of P. sibiricum rhizome [6], development of molecular marker technology [7], and biological activity of P. sibiricum polysaccharide [8], while there have been few studies on P. sibiricum leaves.…”

“…Plants of the genus Justicia (Acanthaceae) are known for presenting many bioactive natural products. Justicia species are commonly used to treat inflammatory diseases. In vitro and in vivo inflammation models indicate significant anti-inflammatory activity for these species. Justicia aequilabris (Nees) Lindau is an endemic species of Brazil mainly found in the northeastern region in the Caatinga biome. , Nevertheless, few studies have explored its chemical and pharmacological potential.…”
