Anti-Inflammatory and Chemopreventive Effects of Triterpene Cinnamates and Acetates from Shea Fat

Abstract: Four triterpene acetates, α-amyrin acetate (1a), β-amyrin acetate (2a), lupeol acetate (3a), and butyrospermol acetate (4a), and four triterpene cinnamates, α -amyrin cinnamate (1c), β -amyrin cinnamate (2c), lupeol cinnamate (3c), and butyrospermol cinnamate (4c), were isolated from the kernel fat (n-hexane extract) of the shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa; Sapotaceae). Upon evaluation of these eight triterpene esters for inhibitory activity against 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (

“…These data indicated that the compound 3 is a furanocoumarins; bergapten as characteristic signals unit were noticeable in both the NMR spectra. The identification of compound 3 as bergapten was confirmed by comparison of empirical data with published values [22].…”

“…Moreover, typically the study of locomotor exercise, as measured by gap cross and open industry tests, showed that ingredients of the leaves (200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg) decreased the frequency and the amplitude of movements. Since, locomotor activity is actually a degree associated with the level of excitability in the CNS [26] this decrease inside spontaneous motor activity can be attributed to the sedative effect of the particular plant extracts [27,28]. In open field analyze, the dose of 400 mg/kg showed lowering effect inside locomotor activity in typically the first observation at (0 min) and continued upwards to a 2 nd observation period (30 min).…”

“…Naturally occurring triterpene alcohols and their derivatives have numerous biologically useful proper-cently determined the contents and compositions of triterpene alcohol fractions from the NSL and fatty acid compositions of the kernel fats n-hexane extracts from 36 shea nut samples from 7 sub-Saharan countries 15 . Additionally, we have demonstrated that the cinnamyl 1c-4c and acetyl 1a-4a triterpene esters TEs , especially lupeol cinnamate 1c , that were isolated from the kernel fat, could be valuable as anti-infl ammatory agents and chemopreventive agents in chemical carcinogenesis 16 . We now report, in this paper, the contents and compositions of TAGs and TEs in the kernel fats of 36 shea nut samples from 7 sub-Saharan countries.…”
