Background. Aloe vera has been used as an anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and immune-boosting agent since ancient time. Hydrogel is a polymeric material that can retain a significant amount of water component and can last as long as possible in the gingival sulcus because the hydrogel is hydrophilic. This study is the first study that seeks to explore the potential of Aloe vera in healing socket wounds after tooth extraction. Methods. Twenty-five white rats of the Wistar strain were acclimatized for seven days before being included in the study. After acclimatization, the experimental animals were grouped into five groups. Evaluation of fibroblast response process with HE staining. Results. There were differences in the mean number of fibroblasts in all groups. From the results of this study, it can be stated that there is an effect of the application of hydrogel Aloe vera 1%, 2.5%, 5%, 10%, and xylazine on the increase in the number of fibroblasts in socket wounds after tooth extraction in Rattus novergicus. Conclusion. There is an effect of Aloe vera hydrogel application on increasing the number of fibroblasts in socket wounds after tooth extraction in Rattus novergicus.

Sulphur plays a vital role in the formation and biosynthesis of protein, chlorophyll, and few amino acids. To investigate the effect of sulphur fertilizer on leaf biomass yield, critical sulphur concentration, sulphur requirement and uptake by Aloe vera L., a pot experiment was carried out following completely randomized design with six levels of sulphur viz., 0, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 80 kg ha −1 with three replications. The results of the study revealed that the growth attributes, leaf and gel yield, and sulphur uptake significantly improved with sulphur application and the best results were obtained from the application of 45 kg sulphur ha −1 . On average, addition of sulphur enhanced the leaf biomass yield by 47.5% and sulphur use efficiency by 38% compared to control. The effect of sulphur on the growth parameters and their significant and positive correlations with yield signifies the importance of sulphur on the yield and quality of A. vera . The calculated minimum amount of sulphur for 80% leaf biomass production was 21.1 kg sulphur ha −1 with a critical leaf sulphur concentration of 0.23% in A. vera. Moreover, sulphur addition to soil substantially enhanced the economic returns of A. vera . Therefore, addition of 45 kg sulphur ha −1 could be a better option for obtaining higher yield and economic return of A. vera .

Aloe, the largest genus in the Asphodelaceae family, comprises 548 species, with A. vera, A. arborescens and A. ferox being among the most widely studied species. Aloe species originated in arid climates and cover various habitats, from sea level up to 2700 m, and from desert to closed-canopy forests. For human health, Aloe species are the richest natural sources. The biological activity of Aloe sp. constituents covers a wide spectrum. Most of the indications come from traditional, folkloric use and several have been verified by in vitro or in vivo studies. Emodin, the main phenolic component, has showed anti-neoplastic, anti-inflammatory, anti-angiogenic and toxicological potential for use in pharmacology. Polysaccharides, with acemannan being the most important, are present in high abundance in Aloe gels. Acemannan has been reported to have applications in oral, metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, oncology, dentistry and wound healing. The effectiveness of Aloe sp. constituents on colon, liver, duodenum, skin, pancreas, intestine, lungs and kidneys cancers was highly studied with remarkable findings. Regarding the metabolic syndrome, Aloe sp. can be used as an antidiabetic and reduces cholesterol and total body fat. Constituents of Aloe sp. are nontoxic in experimental acute oral studies and are widely used in cosmetology and as bitter agents or consistence modifiers in food and beverages. Traditional Aloe remedies cover most human diseases; however, in order to gain legitimacy, the Aloe-derived drugs must have a well-established composition, with thoroughly investigated adverse effects and conventional drug interactions.
