“…Polysaccharides are macromolecular polymers composed of at least ten monosaccharides linked by glycosidic bonds ( 16 ), and they are natural macromolecular active substances widely found in animals, plants, algae, and microbial cells ( 17 ). Polysaccharides are well-known for their health benefits, such as immunomodulatory ( 18 ), anti-tumor ( 19 ), anti-inflammatory ( 20 ), anti-oxidant ( 21 ), and hypolipidemic effects ( 22 ). Previous studies have suggested that polysaccharides from plants, such as Angelica sinensis ( 23 ), Schisandra ( 24 ), and Ophiopogon ( 25 ), show great lipid-lowering effects.…”

“…The IR spectrogram of PFRAAB was obtained by the potassium bromide (KBr) method according to Alliouche's methods with modification [ 14 ]. Briefly, a total of 100 mg dry KBr was added to the PFRAAB powder (2.0 mg), and then the mixture was pressed and screened by a Nicolet 6700 Fourier Transform Infrared Reflection (FTIR) spectrometer (Thermo Fisher Scientific, USA) at 4000–500 cm −1 at a resolution of 2 cm −1 .…”

“…The Sevag method is commonly used to remove proteins from crude polysaccharide solutions, which is based on the principle of protein denaturation in chloroform and other organic solvents (17). In brief, the crude polysaccharide solution is blended with Sevag's reagent (1-butanol/ chloroform, 1/4 v/v) at a certain proportion, the mixture is shaken well, and the supernatant is collected after centrifugation to remove some of the proteins (37,38). The Sevag method offers advantages of mild conditions, without causing the denaturation of polysaccharides (39), and can achieve a good effect of removing proteins from the crude P. frutescens polysaccharide solution after multiple repeated operations (20,23,34).…”
