“…The first phase begins immediately after injection of carrageenan and diminishes within 1 h and the second phase begins at the end of first phase and persisted for at least 5 h after treatment (Holsapple et al, 1980). In initial phase, inflammatory reactions following the injection of carrageenan seem to be mediated by several agents, e.g., histamine, serotonin, kinins and these mediators are probably mainly restricted to the first phases of the process (Garcia Leme et al, 1973), whereas kinin-like substances, arachidonate metabolites as prostaglandins which are the principal mediators of inflammation, leukotrienes, protease and lysosome are mostly released in the second phase (Olajide et al, 1999;Vite et al, 2011;Shewale et al, 2012). No doses of the methanol extracts of flower buds and fruits showed significant anti-inflammatory effect at 90 min as diclofenac, well known cyclooxygenase inhibitor, and significant edema inhibitory response started at 180 min or after following carrageenan injection as diclofenac.…”
