Anti-angiogenesis Function of Ononin via Suppressing the MEK/Erk Signaling Pathway

Abstract: Angiogenesis is a complicated pathological process and plays an important role in modulating tumor development. Flavonoids, sharing the basic functional group with estrogen, have been utilized as chemopreventive agents to inhibit endothelial cell angiogenesis and also suppress tumor cell proliferation. Ononin, also referred to as formononetin-7-O-β-d-glucoside, is one of the bioactive chemicals found within many functional food or plants. The anticancer functions of ononin have been reported both in vitro and … Show more

“…In addition, tanshinone IIA analog , kolaflavanone (KLF) (Alrazi et al, 2021), eugenol (Abdalla et al, 2020), and millepachine (Yan F et al, 2021), considered as potentially potent microtubule inhibitors, inhibit cell growth by interfering with the formation of microtubules. Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) (Chen et al, 2019), lupeol (LUP) (Bociort et al, 2021), saikosaponin A (Cheng and Ying, 2021), and ononin (Gong et al, 2021) can significantly supress tumor angiogenesis.…”

“…Meanwhile, the HPLC fingerprinting has been widely used to identify the source of herbs and perform quality control of herbal medicines because of its convenience and efficiency (Wang, He, et al, 2021). The isolation of chemical components as well as activity studies is the main emphasis of the current research on AR (Gong, Zheng, Kong, & Wen, 2021; Gong, Zheng, Yang, et al, 2021; Pan et al, 2021; Wang, Liu, et al, 2021). Development of a comprehensive quality evaluation method of AR by HPLC fingerprinting and multicomponent quantitative analysis is important.…”

“…The antioxidant, hypolipidemic, and cholesterol lowering of formononetin can regulate the blood pressure by adjusting the vascular tension, which contributes to preventing and treating related cardiovascular diseases effectively ( Zhao et al, 2009 , 2012 ; Yu et al, 2010 ). Ononin, referred to as formononetin-7- O -β- D -glucoside, is one of the bioactive chemicals found in many functional food or plants ( Guowei et al, 2021 ). Ononin has many pharmacological activities, such as promoting skin growth, scavenging oxygen-free radicals, inhibiting lipid peroxidation, maintaining NO concentration in the blood, and protecting ischemia–reperfusion injury ( Wei et al, 2014 ).…”

“…Flavonoids, sharing the basic functional group with estrogen, have been utilized as chemopreventive agents to inhibit endothelial cell angiogenesis, and suppress tumor cell proliferation ( Guowei et al, 2021 ). Myocardial tissue cells are most likely to be infected by SARS-CoV-2, which may directly invade myocardial cells and cause myocardial cell necrosis ( Xiao, 2021 ).…”
