Abstract.A participatory process is used in the design of a user-centered smoke machine, resulting in lasting benefits to the community. This program of IbM (Science and Technology for Society) has designed fish fumes that are mobile, portable and environmentally ergonomic, applying appropriate technology about fumigation so as to increase knowledge to the community. This program improve people skills especially in smoked fish production, increase employment in the field of fishery products processing business. With this activity can grow the interest of the community to entrepreneurship for those who have not started a business and will increase its business for those who have started the processing business of fishery processing. Benefits derived from IbM (Science and Technology for Society) program are, among others, reduced air pollution caused by open fish curing system so that air quality environment, especially around fish processing SMEs to be better, can support and strengthen fish processing industry in the coastal area that began to grow and especially support local SMEs, increase the quantity and quality of patents that can be generated from community service activities funded by Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Technology Research and Higher Education, Republic of Indonesia.

INTEGRATING ANTHROPOMETRY APPROACH AND KANSEI ENGINEERING IN THE DESIGN OF CHILDREN SHOE ABSTRACT. Shoes play an important role in human life. For children in particular, shoes also support the development of their feet. This study is aimed to integrate anthropometric approach with Kansei Engineering in designing shoes for Indonesian children. Eighteen dimensions of foot anthropometry for 331 Indonesian Sundanese children ages 6-10 were measured and presented, a shoe size chart for Indonesian children is proposed as well. Moreover, Kansei Engineering was applied to capture consumers' 'emotion' toward children's shoe design and was evaluated both for Indonesian parents and children. The result shows that emotion related to children's shoe design are comfort and appearance. The implication of the results is further discussed.

The anthropometric characteristics of the users depend upon the topography, nutrition, age, ethnicity, gender, and living conditions, and play a crucial role in the design of the equipment and the workspace to be used by them. This study aims to establish an anthropometry database for male Ethiopian army personnel and investigate the anthropometric variability across ethnicity, age, and with other countries, with the intention to facilitate ergonomic design and development of various facilities (e.g., equipment/ devices, and workspaces) for the Ethiopian army. Following the reliability assessment of the physical measurement technique, the anthropometric data from 250 Ethiopian male army personnel (four different ethnic groups at different age levels) were collected, and normality of the data set was tested. The anthropometric database of Ethiopian army personnel in terms of range, mean, standard deviation, percentile values (5th, 50th, and 95th) was documented. PCA was applied to select a smaller representative by reducing a larger set of variables for further statistical analysis and applications. ANOVA and follow-up posthoc test (Tukey’s HSD test) were carried out to compare anthropometric differences among different age groups and ethnic variations. The mean anthropometric differences were also compared with databases from other countries (India, Korea, and USA) using t-test. Significant variations were found when the anthropometry was compared between age, ethnicity, and cross-nationals. The findings indicate that variations in age, ethnicity, and geographical factors could have a significant impact on the ergonomic design of equipment and workspaces of Ethiopian army personnel.
