Anthropogenic Effects on Heavy Metals and Macronutrients Accumulation in Soil and Wood of Pinus Sylvestris L. / Antropogeninio Poveikio Įtaka Sunkiųjų Metalų Ir Makroelementų Kaupimuisi Dirvožemyje Ir Pušies (Pinus Sylvestris L.) Medienoje / Влияние Антропогенного Загрязнения Тяжелыми Металлами И Макроэлементамина Почву И Сосну Обыкновенную (Pinus Sylvestris L.)

Abstract: The investigation is focused on the uptake of heavy metals and macronutrients fluxes in Pinus sylvestris L. wood and soil under the sampled trees from contaminated and control sites. Soil pH, total organic carbon (TOC) and total and bioavailable heavy metals lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) and macronutrients, potassium (K) and magnesium (Mg) were compared on contaminated and control sites. Also, metal uptake of contaminated and control pine woods was determined. Concentrations of soil bioava… Show more

“…The first study area was located in the eastern part of Lithuania (55°44′ 04″ N and 24°23′ 30″ E) near the city of Panevėžys, on the southern part of a property of approximately 4 ha that was once used by a television (TV) manufacturing company. This company was in business for more than 40 years and was responsible for the production of TV tubes in the Baltic States beginning in 1962 (Pundyte et al, 2011). According to the municipality, this area is highly contaminated with heavy metals such as Pb, Cd, Cu, and Zn (Pundyte et al, 2011).…”

According to the municipality, this area is highly contaminated with heavy metals such as Pb, Cd, Cu, and Zn (Pundyte et al, 2011). The average annual temperature in Panevėžys is 6·5°C, the average annual rainfall is 610 mm , and southwest winds are predominant.…”

“…In another research performed in Canada an infiltration of snowmelt water under small depressions has been examined. Possibilities of transport and accumulation in soil of radionuclides and heavy metals were determined by properties of clay (Jakimavičiūtė-Maselienė et al 2012;Pundytė et al 2011). In a current work we analyse rock permeability variations under the freeze and thaw impact for the first time in Lithuania.…”

“…It depends on different origin or age of soil parent materials. In Lithuania insufficient attention has been paid to various possible natural sources of anomalies of harmful chemical elements, because the main part of geochemical investigations has been concentrated in urban territories or near, where anthropogenic sources are abundant (Vasarevičius et al 2010;Kumpienė et al 2011;Pundytė et al 2011;Stakėnienė et al 2011;zinkutė et al 2011;Galkus et al 2012).
