Anterior Z250 resin composite restorations: one-year evaluation of clinical performance

Abstract: The purpose of this practice-based study was to compare the clinical performance of a new universal composite resin material (Z250) used for Class III and V cavities in anterior teeth. Restorative materials (Z250 and Z100; 3 M ESPE) placed by six operators were used for a total of 150 restorations during the 6-month enrollment period. After 1 year, 141 restorations (76 Z250 and 66 Z100) were available and evaluated for overall quality, color match, marginal adaptation, surface appearance and the presence of se… Show more

“…Furthermore, lowering a material's viscosity by modifying the composition of the monomer system permits a higher filler load while also improving the handling properties. 40 Grandio has a filler degree of 87% w/w (71% volume) by combining spherical nanoparticles; whereas Quixfil has a filler degree of 86% by weight (66% volume) filler load, which is approximately the same.…”

“…Furthermore, lowering a material's viscosity by modifying the composition of the monomer system permits a higher filler load and at the same time improves the handling properties. 28 Grandio has a filler degree of 87% w/w (71% volume) by combining spherical nano particles and none of the restorations had shown any marginal discoloration and anatomic form loss until the end of the 12 months and no restorations exhibited post-operative sensitivity at any evaluation period. Quixfil has 86% by weight (66% volume) filler load, which is approximately the same.…”

“…31 An overview of the literature shows that the survival rate of direct composite resin buildups lie in the range of data presented for anterior composite resin restorations. 29,[32][33][34] Finally, survival of direct composite resin-tooth shape restorations must be compared with alternative treatment options, mainly laminate veneers. Long-term clinical data for laminate veneers exhibit high survival rates (above 90% in 10 years), 35 although needing intervention in more than a third of the cases.…”
