“…The cornea is covered by a squamous epithelium possessing intense regenerative potential, thus enabling fast restoration of the damaged eye surface. Corneal cells are the most external part of the eye and are therefore liable to suffer an injury, and so are very useful in toxicological diagnosis in vitro (15). Currently, due to ease to access, ease of culture and repeatable results, cell lines rather than primary cells isolated from the whole organ are most often used to this end.…”

“…Technology including computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasonography, [13, 14] optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) [15], and confocal microscopy (CM) provides trauma surgeons with the ability to promptly view comprehensive and detailed images of an injury. Of the aforementioned imaging modalities, only AS-OCT and CM can be directly controlled and localized by the ophthalmologist allowing for real time in vivo examination, directed high resolution observation of the anterior segment, and sequential imaging, thereby facilitating the diagnosis and management of the ocular injury.…”

“…[689] Most recently, Lavinsky et al ., evaluated six eyes of six consecutive patients within 30 days of sustaining blunt ocular trauma secondary to rock ( n = 3), piece of wood ( n = 1), and motor vehicle accident ( n = 2). [5] In this study, three patients presented with RPE epitheliopathy and three with subretinal hemorrhage with choroidal rupture.…”

“…[56] In this report, we demonstrate the use of non-mydriatic fundus imaging with digital filters, FAF, OCT, and microperimetry in illustrating the full structural and functional sequelae of posterior segment manifestations of blunt ocular trauma secondary to projectile objects.…”
