Antagonistic Activity of Fungal Endophytes Isolated from Garcinia atroviridis against Colletotrichum gloeosporioides

Abstract: The extensive use of synthetic fungicides in controlling plant disease generates detrimental impacts on the environment and human health. In response to this problem, an alternative method was developed, known as biological control using antagonistic microorganisms. Since investigation on fungal endophytes of Garcinia atroviridis is still unclear, it was chosen for the study. The aim of the present work was to evaluate biocontrol potential of endophytic fungi against Colletotrichum gloeosporiodes, a phytopatho… Show more

“…Furthermore, Billar de Almeida et al ( 2010) also reported the possibility of using EFs for the management of grapevine trunk diseases, which are very important and widespread fungal diseases impacting grapevines. Several other reports on plantpathogen suppression following the treatment of crops with EFs are well documented (Hassanein et al, 2020;Zanudin et al, 2020;Aldinary et al, 2021;Mota et al, 2021;Table 2).…”

“…Other studies use a different approach to determine the specific antifungal compounds that may control plant pathogens. In these studies, the fungal endophytic diversity of a host plant species is characterized, and endophyte cultures are selected for dual culture assays to assess antagonism against known pathogens of the host plant [ 44 , 61 , 62 , 63 , 64 ]. Antagonism against pathogens is primarily determined by the presence of inhibition zones between the endophytic and pathogenic fungi, or the ability of the endophytic fungi to overgrow the pathogenic fungi [ 61 , 62 , 65 , 66 , 67 ].…”
