Ant colony based constrained workflow scheduling for heterogeneous computing systems

Abstract: The problem of constrained workflow scheduling on heterogeneous computing systems has been of major interest in the recent years. The user requirements are described by defining constraints on the workflow makespan and/or its execution cost. The uncertainty in the activity execution path and the dynamicity in the resource workload may cause some run-time changes of the makespan or cost. To prohibit runtime constraint violation, the system needs robust schedules. In this paper, probability of violation (POV) of… Show more

“…To reduce energy consumption and increase the reliability of the system, [27] proposed a bi-objective genetic algorithm (BOGA). Reference [28] used an ant colonybased scheduling technique by adapting three ants to improve workflow reliability under deadlines and budget constraints. In the same line, Kaur and Singh [29] applied the budget constraint to minimize makespan and maximize reliability in a cloud computing environment using their workflow scheduling algorithm.…”

“…At the end, a resource is selected, which execute the clusters within deadline and budget. Kianpisheh et al proposed an Ant Colony鈥恇ased Constraints Workflow Scheduling (ACCWS) algorithm in heterogeneous system considering deadline and budget constraints. To measure the schedule robustness, the authors used probability of violation of defined constraints.…”
