Anscombe, G. E. M.

Abstract: G. E. M. Anscombe (1919–2001) was a formidable thinker. Her brilliant translation of some of Ludwig Wittgenstein's mature work (Wittgenstein 1953) brought him to widespread attention in the English‐speaking world.

“…The film without the NFC and TTO exhibited an angle of 61.9° (B1), while control films with NFC presented contact angles of 54.2° (C1) and 84.5° (C2). A surface of a material is considered hydrophobic when the contact angle is greater than 65°, therefore all the evaluated films with TTO can be considered hydrophobic . The amylases groups from cassava starch have chemical affinity with water, which attracts the water drop to the film and decreases the measured contact angle, as in B1 .…”

“…We use in our model a combination of LTE radiative transfer and tabulated optically thin radiative loss. The radiative transfer module, originally developed by Vögler et al (2005) was modified to dynamically switch off once the transition region is reached. We compute the position of the transition region on a column-by-column basis by finding the first grid cell with T > 20, 000 K going upward from the photosphere.…”

“…In this paper we present a new version of the MURaM radiative MHD code (Vögler et al 2005;Rempel 2014), in which we implement a treatment of the corona along the lines of the above mentioned "realistic" simulations. Unlike Gudiksen et al (2011) we do not implement at this time a realistic treatment of the chromosphere, i.e.…”

“…The failure criteria parameters z i i ¼ 1; 6 ð Þ that define the onset of failure are reported, Table 5. Based on [32,39], the viscosity parameter h and the critical energy release rate G Ic used are 28 000 and 5.5 N mm À 1 , respectively.…”
