Annular Impinging Jet Controlled by Radial Synthetic Jets

Abstract: This experimental study focuses on generation and control of annular impinging jets. An annular nozzle was designed with an active flow control system using twelve radial synthetic jets issuing from the central body of the nozzle. Measurements of the wall pressure and wall mass transfer were performed with air as the working fluid. The control action causes modification of the flowfield resulting in changes of the corresponding heat/mass transfer distributions. The convective transfer rate on the stagnation ci… Show more

“…The environmental fluid fills the SJA cavity during the ingestion phase. Thanks to formation of the edge vortices, the SJs are used in many fields of technology including: aviation [1,2], transport [3,4], heat transport [5][6][7], active flow control [7][8][9] and so on. Due to many applications, SJs are produced with the use of many types of different actuators (in terms of construction and type) so as to increase the SJ efficiency or velocity.…”

“…Since that time, SJs for cooling applications have been investigated by many other authors [50][51][52][53][54][55][56][57][58], including previous work e.g. [59]. A majority of these studies have focused on air SJ impinging on a wall.…”

“…This study highlighted in detail the physical process of the transition from the additional jet to the wall jet. The annular nozzle used in one paper [26] was designed with an active flow control system, which uses 12 synthetic jets to eject radially from the central nozzle body. It also measures the control effect on the impact wall, focusing on the generation and control of the annular impinging jet.…”
