“…It is essential to expose undergraduate students to the paediatric conditions or illnesses which mirror those found in the community at large, and not necessarily those seen within a teaching hospital setting. 29 The cases appropriate to achieve these goals are numerous and may be developed to illustrate variations in context, severity and responsiveness to treatment without any such single patient necessarily existing. If the actual patient 'case' is not readily available, cases can be developed for analysis and discussion so that they emphasize the objectives that form the basis for the particular teaching-learning activity being employed.30 Such cases if developed, must be realistic, and can be presented through videotapes:l written or oral reports or simulated patient^.^…”
