Annotating executable DSLs with energy estimation formulas

Abstract: Reducing the energy consumption of a complex, especially cyber-physical, system is a cross-cutting concern through the system layers, and typically requires long feedback loops between experts in several engineering disciplines. Having an immediate automatic estimation of the global system consumption at design-time would significantly accelerate this process, but cross-layer tools are missing in several domains.Executable domain-specific modeling languages (xDSLs) can be used to design several layers of the s… Show more

“…Power is also one of the metrics considered by Brondolin and Santambrogio, providing closed-box monitoring for multi-component applications [37]. Some proposals aimed to estimate the energy efficiency of specific applications in embedded systems [38] but cannot be applied in complex cloud infrastructures. A virtual energy system exploited to optimize the carbon efficiency of applications is proposed by Souza, Bashir, et al [39].…”

“…These approaches propose general principles and lacks from practical solutions. Some proposal aimed to estimate energy efficiency of specific applications in embedded systems [11], but cannot be applied in complex cloud infrastructures. From a design perspective, in [30] more specific guidelines are provided focusing only on data mining.…”
